So far this year class four have been involved in a number of projects in and out of school. We have linked with Education Buisness Partnership and attended a Primary Eco Conference in Hull, a Green Stem Environmental Day in Goole and most recently a Citizenship Day in school.

Our topic for the autumn term was structures and with the welcome arrival of new play equipment on the field and the shelter on the playground we explored ways in which we could make the field a better playing environment for all the school.

After the success last year of our Wider Opportunities music lessons we have again provided the class with weekly trombone and trumpet lessons. Guitar and recorder groups also continue to be popular.

Class 3 has 24 children from years 3 and 4 who are taught by Miss Hacking and Mrs Newsum. They are a very happy group of children who approach every aspect of school life with enthusiasm.

Our school council representatives are Abbi Collins and Alex Bottomley from Year 3, and Ester Bamford and Alex Panks from Year 4.

This Autumn term our topic has been Detectives and we have discovered all about how the Vikings used to live. In October we went to Murton Park to live as Vikings for the day. We dressed as the Vikings would and lived in longhouses whilst doing things such as weaving, clay pottery, cleaning our village and working the land.

As Christmas approaches, we have been preparing for our play ‘Children of the World’ by learning about different countries and their Christmas traditions. We have learnt about Plum pudding with secret golden nuggets from Australia, Designing candy canes and sewing stocking like in the USA, Making coins from Malawi, as well as learning about Eire, Poland and China.

During the last year we have studied several cross curricular themes including `All About Me’ and `Let’s Celebrate’. We enjoyed looking at how we have changed since we were babies and what makes us individual and special. To celebrate the end of our topic we organised an `All About Me’ exhibition. We invited our friends and families, who all enjoyed looking at our work.

As part of our `Let’s Celebrate’ topic we learnt about many festivals that are celebrated throughout the world including Bonfire Night, Divali, Birthdays, Christmas and Hanuka. We cooked a traditional food linked to each festival.

Mr Brown, one of our class teddy bears is enjoying weekends away at each of our homes. We keep a diary of his adventures. Barnaby and Stanley enjoy going on holiday with the pupils. They have been all over the world and Barnaby has just returned from an adventure in Pakistan.

There are 17 children in class 1. Miss Bolton is the class teacher and Mrs Bainton is the
Nursery Nurse. Since we started school in September we have been very busy! We have
found out all about ‘Holidays and Journeys’, we really enjoyed this because we created
our very own Airport and Travel-Agents in the role play area! We are getting very good
at counting and ordering numbers! We are also fabulous at phonics. We all know lots and
lots of new phonemes, you can see this in our super writing. We have phonics every day
and we love finding out what our new sound is!

We all have our very own reading books which we take home and share with all our
families. On a Friday we have some Home-work to do over the weekend, where we
practise our number and letter formation.

This term we are looking at ‘Food’ and ‘Christmas’. We were very lucky and got to go and
see ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ at Hull Truck Theatre, we really enjoyed looking at all
the things he had to eat. After the Theatre we went to Build a Bear and made a class
Bear, she is a monkey called Belle. We all love Belle and our Star of the week takes Belle
home with them at the week-end.
